The Chipeta Chapter is the oldest continuously active chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society. It was established in Montrose, CO in 1935‐over 80 years ago. Our objectives are to foster interest in archaeology, to protect archaeological antiquities, and to discourage the exploitation of archaeological resources.
Membership is open to any person interested in archaeology who is in agreement with our purposes and code of ethics. Our monthly meetings are free, open to the public, and offer entertaining and educational archaeological presentations. We currently have over 100 members who participate in numerous educational, recreational, and service activities.
Our parent organization, the Colorado Archaeological Society, is a non-profit organization with chapters located throughout the state. It's members include professional and avocational archaeologists as well as individuals interested in learning more about the practices and discoveries of archaeology.
Join us and experience all that the exciting field of archaeology has to offer in western Colorado and beyond!
